Saturday: The 17th Annual Children’s Friend 5K Walk & Run

Howley Bread Group (HBG), a franchisee of Panera Bread, has started its annual fundraising campaign for Children’s Friend, a non-profit that is dedicated to protecting vulnerable children in Rhode Island. Beginning April 8, 2019, bakery-cafés in 12 Rhode Island and Massachusetts locations will begin raising funds for this worthy cause. Customers will have the option to donate $1 or more to the organization while placing their order. Those who choose to donate $3 will receive a special Children’s Friend bracelet.

The event, which takes place on Saturday, May 4th at 9:00 a.m., features a walk or timed 5K run, live performances, arts and crafts, free food from Panera Bread, and all kinds of fun for children and adults. The event is free for walkers and there is a $30 registration fee for runners participating in the 5K. Dogs are welcome in accordance with Roger Williams Park policies. Saturday: Ladies Learn to Shoot Pistols Clinic at Wallum Lake Rod & Gun Club

This course is a Women on Target® Instructional Shooting Clinic. The Learn to Shoot Pistols course is an introduction to safe gun handline and shooting in a relaxed, friendly environment. We start with a classroom presentation and safety briefing and offer additional information on ammunition and selecting a pistol for different purposes, then move to the range for live firing under the direction of an experienced instructor, one-on-one. Participants may fire a .22LR, .38 Special, .380 Auto or 9mm Luger pistol of their choosing. Wallum Lake Rod & Gun Club is located at 200 Brook Road in Harrisville, RI. REGISTER HERE.

 

SUNDAY: 92 PRO-FM’s Cinco de Mayo Fiesta at Ladder 133

SUNDAY: 2019 University of Rhode Island Contemporary Arts Festival

Featuring new music, theater, and literary performance, and visual art, video, and multimedia installations by URI students, faculty, and alumni.

The event is free and open to the public with donations accepted to support scholarships.

SUNDAY: Providence Museum of Natural History Bird Walks 9:00 AM – 10:30 AM

During our spring bird walks in the park, particular attention will be paid to migrating songbirds. We’ll search the canopy for warblers, tanagers and more. Please wear comfortable shoes and bring binoculars if you have them. All skill levels are welcome.
