The Burrillville Town Council voted unanimously Wednesday to approve a resolution that declares Burrillville as a “Second Amendment sanctuary town.” Councilman Donald Fox introduced the resolution and tells WPRO’s Dan Yorke that the purpose of the resolution was to push back against attacks on Second Amendment rights. “We are not going to fund the ability for our local police to either confiscate, store or dispose of weapons or magazines or whatever it is that they’re looking to take away from us.”

The resolution also says Burrillville will not pay to store guns seized by police because of possible future legislation banning certain firearms.

Linda Finn, executive director of the Rhode Island Coalition Against Gun Violence, called the move “disturbing.”

She says police don’t have discretion over which laws they enforce.
