PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) – A Rhode Island state senator is trying to get the state to ban 3D-printed plastic guns.

Democratic Sen. Cynthia Coyne, of Barrington, introduced the legislation. She fears that anyone with internet access and a 3D printer will soon be able to make weapons that are undetectable and untraceable.

Several states are suing the Trump administration to dissolve a settlement it reached with a Texas-based company that wants to post instructions online for making 3D guns.

Coyne’s bill seeks to address the issue at the state level.

The Senate Judiciary Committee is currently considering it. The committee’s chairwoman, Democratic Sen. Erin Lynch Prata, is a co-sponsor.

Senate spokesman Greg Pare says Democratic Senate President Dominick Ruggerio is concerned about the issue, and grateful to Coyne for her leadership on it.
