Gov. Raimondo Names New State Police Chief

(Providence)  Governor Gina Raimondo is naming Narragansett Town Manager and retired State Police Major James Manni as her nominee to become State Police Supt and Director of Public Safety.

Manni retired from the State Police in 2015 becoming the Town Manager of Narragansett in 2016. He also co-chaired the Governor’s Gun Safety Working Group which was formed in the aftermath of the Parkland High School shootings in Florida. If confirmed by the State Senate, Manni will replace the departing State Police Supt. Ann Assumpico who announced her retirement on Christmas Eve.

The Governor is also nominating Patricia Coyne-Fague to become Director of the Department of Corrections. She has been the Acting Director of the DOC since A.T. Wall left that position two years ago. Her nomination also needs the confirmation of the State Senate.

Raimondo is also elevating Marc Pappas to Director of the Dept. of Emergency Management. He has been the Acting Director of EMA since the departure of former Director Pete Gaynor, who left Rhode Island to become Deputy Adminstrator of FEMA. The EMA Director does not require Senate approval and Pappas will become Director immediately.
