The AMC supernatural horror series “NOS4A2”, which has been filming since summer in Rhode Island is nearing completion, and opened its set to reporters on Wednesday.

The 10-part inaugural season, based on a best-selling novel by Joe Hill is scheduled to air in the summer of 2019.

Writer and showrunner Jami O’Brien said she was encouraged by an AMC executive to read the novel and adapt it for television.

“The scripts were really good and I really liked her,” said Zachary Quinto, who plays the male lead, Charlie Manx, described by the producers as “a supernatural villain who feeds off the souls of children then deposits what remains of them into Christmasland – a twisted place of Manx’s imagination”.

“There’s just a lot of good, creative energy around this project. Combined with the fact that I really get to explore all these different versions of the character, because he is immortal and therefore he sort of ages up and down. There was just too much to say no to. I couldn’t walk away from the opportunity and I’m certainly glad I didn’t.”

About 300 people are working on the production, says O’Brien, who found shooting locations in towns from Warren to Woonsocket, West Warwick to Lincoln, keyed to the travels depicted in the series.

“There are times when we’re in Colorado, and there are places (in Rhode Island) that kind of look like Colorado. There are times when we’re in the Midwest, and there are places that look like the Midwest,” she said.

On this day, episode six was being shot on a stage, focusing on the female lead, Vic McQueen, played by Ashleigh Cummings. She is described as “a gifted young woman who discovers she has a supernatural ability to find lost things… an ability that puts her on a collision course with the evil and immortal Charlie Manx”.

Quinto describes her as, “a young Australian actress who is beyond talented. She’s just got such an incredible spirit and her work is beautiful.”
