PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Data shows most registered voters in Rhode Island are either unaffiliated or Democrats.

The Providence Journal reports that almost 44 percent of the state’s 789,372 registered voters are unaffiliated while more than 42 percent are Democrats. According to the voter database, more than 13 percent of registered voters are Republicans and 0.5 are considered Moderates.

The Journal found that female voters outnumbered male voters by nearly 30,000. More registered Democrats were women.

According to the database, 1990 is the most common birth year among registered voters. The number of voters born in the year 1961 hits another peak but declines in 1975. Hundreds of families were forced to relocate in 1975 when the Navy closed two bases in the state.
