Cops: Governor, AG candidates arrested with 48 pounds of pot

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Two fringe Rhode Island candidates who advocate for using marijuana have been arrested, allegedly with 48 pounds of illegal pot.

State police say gubernatorial candidate Anne Armstrong and attorney general candidate Alan Gordon were arrested Thursday at their West Greenwich home. They were due in court on charges of marijuana possession and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

Police said they received a complaint of a strong marijuana odor and found illegal plants, with a 15-year-old child in the house.

Armstrong sent a tweet from what appeared to be the back of a police cruiser, saying she was arrested “again” for cannabis and calling the incident an “atrocity.”

The two Compassion Party candidates run a church that considers cannabis healing. They believe the term “marijuana” is pejorative.
