The magazine Men’s Journal has compiled a list of the two best beers from all fifty states and two newer brewers came out on top.

One beverage each was selected from both Pawtucket’s Foolproof Brewing and West Kingston’s Proclamation Ale Company as the finest Rhode Island has to offer. Foolproof’s President Nick Garrison said it is an honor to have their Le Ferme Urbaine Farmhouse Ale (LFU) recognized nationally.

“[We’re] very proud of that particular beer, and all of our beers, but we we’re thrilled to see LFU get some recognition,” said Garrison.

Described as a Saison ale with a unique twist of malts, hops, and yeast, the LFU ale was initially conceived as a limited batch of beer after the company launched in 2013. After quickly selling out their stock, Garrison and company brought the beer back last year.

“Knowing how popular it had been, we decided to make it into a year ‘round beer and put it in cans,” Garrison said.

Garrison says the national publicity can only help the company which quickly accelerated to become the largest capacity brewer in Rhode Island.

Similarly, the year-young Proclamation Ale Company has made impact on the state’s local brewing scene with their experimental style of brewing beer.  Men’s Journal selected Proclamations hoppy-golden ale Keraterra for it combination of citrusy hops, sour yeast strains, and Pinot Noir barrel aging saying, “Proclamation reigns in each element to complement one another, instead of drowning each other out.”

There are eleven total breweries in Rhode Island.
