For the first time ever, Providence Firefighters Local 799 will be offering rides home to residents who want to have a few drinks to ring in the New Year.

Starting at 5:00p.m. Wednesday night, Firefighters will launch Safe Night and will offer free rides home from restaurants and bars within the city limits until 7:00a.m. New Year’s Day. In a statement, the Local 799 sys they are offering rides in an effort to cut down on drunken driving accidents and keep residents safe.

The rides will be provided by a limited number of off-duty fire fighters so delays are to be expected.
